PROJECT ------------ Title: Insect Pollinators Initiative Sustainable Pollination Services for UK Crops Project Dates: Jan 2011 to June 2014 Funding organisations: BBSRC, Defra, NERC, the Scottish Government and the Wellcome Trust, under the Living with Environmental Change Partnership. Grant no.: BB/I000348/1 We acknowledge receipt of funding which supported postgraduate research during which some of the data were collected: Funding was provided to Sean Webber by Sainsbury's Supermarkets Limited for a postgraduate studentship 'Managing Ecosystem Services to promote Food Security and Economic Benefits' under the BBSRC’s CASE scheme, for the period from October 2013 to September 2017. Funding was provided to Megan McKerchar by Fruition PO limited and Waitrose Limited in support of postgraduate research conducted while registered at the University of Worcester, in the period from October 2012 to October 2015. We acknowledge the support provided to Megan McKerchar by the University of Worcester during the period in which data presented here were collected. We thank her supervisor Duncan Westbury and Emily Owen of the Graduate School for their assistance in publishing this dataset. We thank the above and East Malling Research for permission to publish data collected with their support. 2. DATASET ------------ Title: Valuing insect pollinators for UK apple production Description: Data on the effectiveness of different pollinator taxa for apple pollination collected from flight cage manipulations record the effects of different numbers of floral visits by four pollinator species on fruit set and seed set in apples. Field data on flower visitation to different varieties of UK apple orchards in Kent are recorded as number of visits made by different pollinator taxa during transect walks or stationary observations. Data from experimental manipulations to determine the dependence on insect pollination of these apple varieties record fruit set, seed set and apple quality between open pollinated and pollinator-excluded treatments.
