1. PROJECT ------------ Title: Volcanic Ash Dosage and Risk Tool (VDART) Dates: May 2023 - December 2023 Funding organisation: Lloyds Tercentenary Research Foundation 2. DATASET ------------ Title: Outputs from a volcanic ash transport and dispersion model (NAME) for the 2019 Raikoke eruption. Description: This dataset contains the output of a volcanic ash transport and dispersion model (Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment - NAME) simulations of the 2019 Raikoke eruption. This set of simulations is used to investigate the impact of the structual choices made in the setup of NAME to along-flight peak ash concentration and dosage calculations. The following parameters are varied: temporal resolution, horizontal resolution and number of particles released per hour in the simulations. CONTENTS ------------ File listing raikoke_structural_runs.tar.gz contains concentration output from NAME simulations for the 2019 eruption of Raikoke. The number in the directory name indicates the particle release rate used in the simulations. Within each of these directories there are outputs for the following spatial and temporal resolutions. Output times: 1hr, 2hr, 3hr, 6hr, 12hr, 24hr Horizontal resolution: 20km, 40km, 80km, 160km All other input and model parameters are kept the same. 5. METHOD and PROCESSING -------------------------- The method and processing used to create this data are described in Lauren James et al. (202X): How does model structural sensitivity effect volcanic ash dispersion and aviation hazard risk thresholds? ACP (In prep). The dispersion model data was created using NAME III Version 7.2. Full details of the NAME model can be found here: Jones, A., Thomson, D., Hort, M., Devenish, B. The UK Met Offices next-generation atmospheric dispersion model, NAME III.
