PROJECT ------------ Title: The National Eclipse Weather Experiment (NEWEx) Dates: Jan-2015 - March 2015 Funding organisation: Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) Grant no.: NE/J024678/1 Funding organisation: Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Grant no.: ST/M000885/1 2. DATASET ------------ Title: The National Eclipse Weather Experiment Observations Description: This data set provides the citizen science weather observations that were submitted to the National Eclipse Weather Experiment during the solar eclipse on 20-03-2015. In this experiment citizen scientists across the United Kingdom were asked to make measurements of air temperature and visual assessments of wind speed, wind direction and cloudiness, throughout the duration of the eclipse. These observations were then submitted via a webform and collated into this data set. Publication Year: 2016 Creator(s): Luke Barnard, Antonio Portas, Richard Giles Harrison. Organisation(s): University of Reading Source(s): These data were obtained from the efforts of citizen scientists across the United Kingdom. 3. TERMS OF USE ----------------- This dataset is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. 4. CONTENTS ------------ NationalEclipseWeatherExperimentObservations.csv - This csv file contains all of the weather observations submitted to the National Eclipse Weather Experiment. These data were submitted via a Google Form and collated into a Google Sheet. The data in this csv file are exported directly from the Google Sheet, after data collection had stopped and the Google Form was taken offline. 5. METHOD and PROCESSING -------------------------- This data set of weather observations was generated by a network of citizen scientists across the United Kingdom. Participants in the National Eclipse Weather Experiment were asked to measure the air temperature with a thermometer, and make visual assessments of cloudiness, wind speed, and wind direction at their locaiton, throughout the eclipse that occured on 20-03-2015. These data were then submitted via a Google Form, and collected in a Google Sheet. This is a csv export of the Google Sheet, obtained after data collection ended. No post-processing has been performed to these data.
